Security Assessments and Reviews PDF Print E-mail

Overview

A thorough baseline security assessment is the crucial first step to developing a security plan for any organsec_assessments1_147x110ization. It identifies and enables executives to clearly see:

  • what assets need protecting? (in many cases, this is not as obvious as it may at first appear)
  • what are the threats (bad things that might happen) to those assets?
  • what are the risks levels? (the likelihood that the identified threats will happen)
  • how effective existing measures are for protecting against the major risks?, and
  • what are the options and costs for closing the gaps where the consequences of high risks would result in an unacceptable loss to the organization?

How Will It Help My Organization?

The assessment provides the foundation for determining the priorities for reducing risk, identifying mitigation strategies that best fit the organization's needs and resources, making recommendations for the best choices among available options, and developing a plan for implementing, measuring, reevaluating, and modifying the security posture to continuously meet changing conditions.

Why Not Skip the Assessment and Work On the Issues I Already Know About?

Without a methodical baseline review, there is a very high risk that major threats to an organization's assets will go unrecognized, significant unforeseen losses that endanger both financial health and reputation will occur repeatedly, and resources will not be spent in the best way on the highest priority needs.

Does Every Engagement Need to Include a Full Security Assessment?

If the client wishes to focus only on a preidentified issue, we can help with that as well. In that case, an explicit outline of the limitations on the scope of work will be written into the letter of engagement or contract.
